Hanging Loads from a BubbleDeck Slab: Strong, Reliable, and Proven in Practice

While BubbleDeck slabs are known for their signature void-forming bubbles that reduce structural weight, a common question among designers is:

“Can we safely hang fixtures from the slab soffit? And how much load can it really carry?”The short answer is — Yes, absolutely. And it’s backed by international test results.

BubbleDeck removes non-structural concrete from the center of the slab using recycled plastic bubbles. However, it retains full structural performance for both loadbearing and anchoring purposes:

  • Minimum 20 mm of concrete exists below the center of each bubble
  • Moving just slightly away from the center, the concrete depth increases to 70 mm or more

BubbleDeck International, in collaboration with leading anchor manufacturers Fischer and Hilti, conducted multiple tests on 60 mm precast BubbleDeck panels. The results are summarized as follows:

Anchor TypeEmbedment DepthSafe Working Load (kN)Approx. Load Capacity (kg)
FNA II (M6)25 mm1.91 kN~195 kg
FBS 6×40 (Screw)30 mm2.5 kN~250 kg
FDA-R 10×30 (Drop-in)30 mm3.54 kN~360 kg
FBS M8/M10I (Screw)55 mm4.7 kN~470 kg

Note: All figures above already include a global safety factor of 4
to ensure safe application under real-world conditions

  • Lightweight Loads (e.g., conduits, cable trays, ductwork):
Can be installed using standard plug & screw systems anywhere on the soffit
  • Medium to Heavy Loads:
    • Avoid fixing directly beneath the center of the bubble
    • Prefer zones where concrete thickness is ~70 mm
    • Use proper anchors like:
      • Fischer FBS Concrete Screws
      • Hilti HIT HY20 Chemical Anchors for maximum pull-out resistance (can support 2x more load)

Fixings into BubbleDeck slabs are safe and reliable, if:

  • Bubble layout is checked beforehand (available from our shop drawings)
  • Appropriate anchor type and embedment depth is selected
  • You consult with our engineering team if in doubt or if dealing with special load conditions

BubbleDeck not only makes slabs lighter, but retains full capability to support suspended loads — with strength verified through international testing. When properly installed, anchors can safely carry 200 to 500 kg per point, depending on location and anchor type.

BubbleDeck – Lightweight by design. Heavy-duty by performance.
